At OMCO Metals, we make high-quality parts that help large engines perform better, for example in the high demanding marine sector. One of our long-time customers is a global leader in turbocharger technology. Their systems boost engine performance by using exhaust gases to compress air going into the engine.
We’ve been working with them since more then a decade, providing parts like compressor housings, heat shields, and diffusers. Today, they build over 15,000 turbochargers a year — and many of those include components made by OMCO Metals.
One of the more challenging parts we supply is the heat shield. It protects nearby parts of the turbocharger from the intense heat coming from the exhaust gases. This helps the turbocharger to last longer with an increased performance.
At first, these heat shields were made from stainless steel and fully machined — a process that caused a lot of material waste and required a lot of time, thus resulting in a high cost. That’s when OMCO Metals stepped in with a better idea: a cast version made from Niresist, a tough, high-performance alloy.
This Niresist alloy works extraordinarily well in tough conditions like those in marine engines. It’s resistant to heat, corrosion, wear, and keeps performance high over time.
It wasn’t easy to get this process just right. But thanks to our focus on innovation and precision, we’ve become experts in making these cast heat shields.
Since 2017–2018, we’ve been supplying thousands of such heat shields every year for several types of turbochargers, each with different shapes and designs. Our parts help make sure the customer’s systems stay reliable and efficient, even in the most demanding conditions.
